BECAUSE IT’S FRIDAY |
TWIN SHADOW - FIVE SECONDS

Despite the upbeat discotheque sample, George Lewis’ (aka. Twin Shadow) lyrics make it difficult to ignore the heart-breaking and desperate attempts at winning this woman’s love. This theme of melancholy remains consistent throughout the album. However, Lewis’ musical delivery cushions his brutally honest accounts of love, greed, and life.

It’s been almost a year since the release of his second self produced album ‘Confess.’ However, Twin Shadow’s 1980’s Morrissey-like vibe proves to be timeless and resilient.

Twin Shadow is performing this weekend at the Sasquatch Music Festival as well as the Commodore Ballroom on May 28th, 2013.

Because it’s Friday, may you remain resilient!

OUR WEEK IN INSTAGRAM |

It was a short and sweet work week, as we welcomed our lovely PR Coordinator Heidi Turner back from her studious stint at Royal Roads University.

Our Montreal friends Lili is Brunette, Querelles, and Montreal in Style chimed in with their favorite products of the season. Merci, vous belles amies!

Big Blue Denim from PLENTY arrived just in time for summer, adding a pop of color to this season’s wardrobe.

There will be lots of great things on the horizon as we prep for the upcoming KNOWSHOW event in July and our friends at Lifetime Collective make themselves at home in their new head office!

We hope your week was short and sweet too. Happy travels for those going to the Sasquatch Music Festival this weekend!

PURPLE VISION: MONTREAL IN STYLE

Montreal In Style blogger Anik Lacasse’s Grape Plattan headphones from Urbanears made her violent violet beauty hot list today! While we’ve seen so many colour trends on the greener side this spring, we love getting washed away in a sea of purple rain.

Providing “optimal and rich” sound quality, Anik mixes her Plattans with a hit of pretty purple eye shadow and deep plum nail polish.

OUR WEEK IN INSTAGRAM |

Lots of familiar faces spotted with some familiar brands this week. Aside from Jessi Cruickshank, Nick Cannon, and George Strombo showing us some of their favorite products, the DCPR team has had a relatively pleasant week wrapping up last of the media previews.

Our wonderful PR Coordinator Heidi has been hard at work hitting the books at Royal Roads University. We’ve missed her terribly and can’t wait for her to join us again next week.

We hope everyone gets some well-deserved R&R this long weekend!

BECAUSE IT’S FRIDAY |
DAFT PUNK - DOIN’ IT RIGHT

French duo Daft Punk consistently raises the bar of electronic-music without compromising their trademark sound. Since announcing the May 21st release of their album ‘Random Access Memories,’ there has been much anticipation of the kind of music these fellows will produce.

The recent release of “Get Lucky” already shows promise, being one of the most downloaded singles on iTunes and experiencing massive radio airplay.

In contrast to their retro-inspired Pharrell collaborated track, “Doin’ it Right” (feat.Panda Bear), offers a low-key sound reminiscent of their 2001 Discovery track, “Something About Us.”

Overtly minimalist, simple, and whimsically intergalactic. The guys behind Daft Punk are certified alchemists of electronic music.

Because it’s Friday (before the long weekend), we hope that you end up doin’ it right.

OUR WEEK IN INSTAGRAM |

DCPR is back in Vancouver after a whirlwind of a week on the East coast. What great timing too, as we were graced with nothing but sunshine all week! The team continued with its media preview at the NLA headquarters

BECAUSE IT’S FRIDAY |
THE LOVE LANGUAGE - CALM DOWN

The July release of their third proper LP ‘Ruby Red,’ already proves growth and progression for North Carolina’s indie-pop band The Love Language

The combination of steady drumbeats, bright synths, and cavernously haunting vocals, makes this an unassumingly fitting track for any summer mix-tape. While it remains relatively bright and upbeat, the electronic-like influences, calmly coasts the listener through a pretty solid song.

Because its Friday…may you find some calm and serenity.

SPRING BUDS IN THE GLOBE AND MAIL

What is this season’s perkiest accessory? According to the Globe and Mail’s style section, it’s the in-ear headphones. Tip? Choose bright colours and noise-isolating features (like the Urbanears Bagis headphones, number 5 in above photo) that will make your music sound as vivid as your earbuds look!

BECAUSE ITS FRIDAY |
IRON & WINE - GRACE FOR SAINTS AND RAMBLERS

This is Iron & Wine’s sixth album, Ghost on Ghost starts out quietly and disarmingly, then transitions through the record with jazz and blues combos, peppered with just the right amount of stings and brass. This record displays that he has an interest in transcending indie folk and country at an expansive, but leisurely pace.

He proves once again he is a creative songwriter with a defined lyrical style. Effortlessly notably in this catchy track which revels in simple musicality, fun energetic vocals and a sense of grace.

Because its Friday! …. may we all be doing what we love.
